Diana Danelys de Los Santos, better known on stage as Amara La Negra, was born to Ana Maria Oleaga, a single mother, on October 4, 1990 in Miami, Florida. From the Dominican Republic, Amara’s mother immigrated to the United States. She supported her daughter by working five jobs.
Amara obtained her high school diploma and enrolled in college. She initially chose to study mortuary science, but then switched to business administration and later dropped out to focus on her music career. In her childhood, she experienced a lot of prejudice because of her skin color.

Amara La Negra started her singing career at the age of 4 on the Spanish program Sabado Gigante, where she performed for six years as the only dark-skinned girl.
