Bob Lee’s father, Rick Lee, had the unenviable task of announcing to the world that the Cash App founder had died after a knife attack in San Francisco. Bob was stabbed to death in the early morning hours of April 4, 2023, in the city’s posh Rincon Hill neighborhood.

Rick Lee posted a heartbreaking tribute to his late son on Facebook, calling Bob his best friend. The elder Lee wrote that he moved in with Bob after his wife and Bob’s mother died in 2019. Bob and Rick moved to Miami in October 2022, Rick said. He added:
“Life has been an adventure with two singles living together, and I am so happy that we have been able to become so close these past few years. Bob would give you the shirt off his back. He never looked down on anyone and adhered to a strict non-judgmental philosophy.”
Rick described Bob as a hard worker and the smartest person he had ever met. “He will be missed by all who knew him,” Rick wrote. “Thank you to those who have reached out in support.”
Bob’s brother, Tim Oliver Lee, posted the following tribute on Facebook: “I am so sad and heartbroken to lose my brother. He really was the best of us. I was very lucky to grow up with him and I feel like I have lost a part of myself. Thank you to everyone who reached out and offered condolences from him.”
