Paula Jones unleashed the spate of sexual harassment allegations that would mar President Bill Clinton’s presidency and leave him on the brink of impeachment. Jones filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against President Clinton in May 1994, a lawsuit that Clinton contested because he was a sitting president and thus immune from litigation.
However, the US Supreme Court disagreed, ruling that a sitting president was not exempt from litigation for an act committed outside of public office. The president eventually settled for $850,000, but did not apologize or admit to Jones’ sexual harassment allegations.

Paula ended up with a fraction of the $850,000 paid by Bill Clinton to settle the case. With no money, Paula posed nude for Penthousea decision that sent his former followers racing for the hills.
“I needed the money,” Paula said. vanity fair. “I was going through a separation at the time, a divorce. I had to pay taxes [on earnings from the settlement]. I had to buy a house for me and my children. The IRS was after me.”
Critics accused her of hypocrisy for the stripping shoot, but Paula couldn’t see the connection between her sexual harassment claims and her decision to pose nude. Her desperation prompted her collaboration with Penthouse, since friends of hers and suspected supporters of hers had deserted her.
After the shoot, Jones’s former allies distanced themselves further from her. “It was like I was nobody,” Jones lamented. “They just ignored me and left me like I was a hot potato.” Conservative pundit Ann Coulter provided a particularly scathing assessment of Paula:
“She used to have dignity and nobility and tremendous courage. Now she’s just the trash from the trailer park they said she was her.” “It was horrible what she said about me,” Jones said. vanity fair. Following her divorce from Steve Jones, the couple reached a custody agreement for their two sons, Stephen and Preston.
Paula married Steve Mark McFadden in 2001, with whom she shares a son. The couple settled in Arkansas, where Jones works as a real estate agent. After her marriage, Paula faded in and out of the public eye, and her boxing match against Tonya Harding attracted much publicity.
She said TIME that she doesn’t “want to make a career out of what happened in the scandal.” Jones then starred in a comedy about the Clinton-Lewinsky affair. Paula claims that she knows that the politicians saw her as a pawn in a bigger game; however, she doesn’t seem to mind that role. She appeared at a press conference with President Donald Trump organized to criticize Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Still, Jones says not much has been told about her story yet, and she hopes a publisher will support her desire to write a book about her life. She said vanity fair:
Why aren’t they interested? I feel like I have some kind of plague or something. Everyone who has had some kind of scandal or anything that gets in their way eventually ends up as a Lifetime movie or they make a book. They have never allowed me to make a book.”

Although Jones claims that Annaleigh nailed her look, she thinks the series got a lot wrong. In an interview with inside edition, Jones described his portrayal as “inaccurate”. “It was almost a kind of cartoon. How can you accurately portray someone if you don’t even name them? Paula said.
She claims that Monica Lewinsky, the series’ producer, is getting much better treatment, considering her role in the scandal. “It just doesn’t make sense to me,” she said. “And it’s almost like I’ve always been rejected and mocked.”
Annaleigh, on the other hand, feels like she understood her portrayal of Jones. She did a lot of research on Paula’s history and made sure to perfect Paula’s gait and accent. More importantly, Ashford feels the series told Paula’s story well. She said Vulture:
“I feel like there was so much source material that we told her story to the best of our ability, and I would like to believe that we gave a lot of empathy to this woman, and people are seeing a different dimension to her story and her narrative. I think we’re giving voice to her piece of her puzzle in a way that hasn’t been done before.”
Does Annaleigh regret her role in publicizing Monica’s affair with President Clinton? No. She feels it was necessary for her case. She is of the opinion that both sides did things they shouldn’t have done. “Then why should I feel bad?” she asked vanity fair. “I did not expose her. Linda Tripp did.
Jones told the publication that she would refile the sexual harassment lawsuit, despite all the lawsuits she faced afterward. She said:
“I was a very, very introverted, shy, quiet, submissive person before all of this. [In addition,] He has dictated many fundamental laws. I think things have probably gotten a lot better for women in the workplace because of what happened with my case.”
Today, Jones sports a changed nose after persistent jokes about his appearance. He received offers from various plastic surgeons across the country, but opted for one in New York who also proposed augmenting Paula’s breasts, an offer he politely declined.
