Christen Press is an American soccer player for Manchester United and the United States Women’s National Soccer Team. Press impressed as a Division 1 player for the Stanford Cardinal, where she set the current all-time assist and scoring records. Christen was the 2011 WPS Rookie of the Year, but a year later, she left for Swedish club Tyreso FF after the WPS folded.
Press’s impressive performances earned him a call-up to the national team in February 2013. So far, he has scored 60 goals in 142 appearances for his country.

Cody was a football star in college, and Stacy impressed on the tennis court.
Christen Press was born on December 29, 1988 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Stacy and Cody Press. Stacy and Cody met in the early ’80s at Howard University. They were married on New Year’s Eve 1982. Their marriage produced three daughters: Tyler, Christen, and Channing.
Cody and Stacy were star athletes in college; Cody was the football captain at Dartmouth, and Stacy easily pushed opponents aside on the tennis court. Neither Cody nor Stacy pursued athletic careers, but they passed their athletic genes on to their daughters. Stacy was particularly involved in pushing her sons into sports. cody said Sports Illustrated:
“They made brownies. They played tennis. They ran track. Finally, Stacy said, ‘You guys are doing too much. You have to choose a few things. So they chose soccer and tennis. And she still did things like the talent show at school, and Stacy would be the one to choreograph the talent show. She dedicated her life to the girls”.
In the end, the sisters decided on soccer. Starting places in the Slammers FC squad were won, but from the start, Christen was the undoubted star. She said Sports Illustrated that Cody’s catchphrases motivated her to keep pushing. She especially liked “You’d Better Bring Your Lunch Box,” a reference to blue-collar workers who worked so hard they barely had time for lunch.
“There are a lot of things that are out of your control,” Christen said. YEAH. “But the only thing you can control is your work ethic.” Stacy read that soccer legend Pelé took 100 shots every day with each foot to improve his shooting skills. Christen emulated Pele by taking 100 shots with each foot every day before or after practice, leaving Stacy to fetch balls from the trees behind goal.

A couple of months after running a half marathon, Stacy suffered a surprise seizure. Later, a cancer specialist confirmed the worst: Stacy was diagnosed with stage IV glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive condition. Stacy later suffered a stroke during the surgery, leaving her partially paralyzed.
In an incredible show of force, Stacy went through chemotherapy and therapy. Unfortunately, she suffered a brain aneurysm which placed her on life support. At the hospital, Cody and her oldest daughter, Tyler, painfully decided to take Stacy off life support. “Tyler and I made the decision,” Cody said. YEAH. We’re all here giving him morphine. And we took him off life support.”
Stacy Press was 58 years old when she passed away on January 23, 2019. The family went to the Catholic Church, but decided to forego Catholic burial formalities. “The girls said fuck off,” Cody revealed. “We will do our own service at Palos Verdes Golf Club. They were installed for 250 people. Lots of local people. All the Slammers on Christen’s team showed up.”
Some of Stacy’s national teammates appeared, including Megan Rapinoe and Tobin Heath. “He was very nice to her,” Cody added. Christen paid tribute to Stacy by engraving her date of death, 01.23.19, on his World Cup boots. After scoring a header during the semi-final against England, Christen looked up and raised his hands to heaven. “I was thinking about my mom,” she said after the game.
“Stacy would have loved it,” Cody said of the goal.
