Shamet initially refused to meet with Davis after Melanie found him on Facebook. However, he wanted to connect with his three half-siblings, whom Davis had with another woman. In the fall of 2021, Shamet got together with Davis. He said azcentral:
“I connected with my father for the first time last year, last fall. And with that he assumed the role of big brother with three younger brothers. He hadn’t met any of them. They didn’t know about me. I’ve known about them since he was like 16 years old. The only child of a single mother my whole life, it’s life changing.”
