Gotye (real name: Wouter ‘Wally’ De Backer) is a Belgian-born Australian singer who rose to fame following the success of his 2011 single. somebody that I Used to Know. After winning three Grammy Awards, many assumed Gotye would continue to make music in a bid to return to the awards stage. However, Gotye took a different route. He announced via a blog post that he had finished making music under the name Gotye. “There will be no new Gotye music,” he wrote.
“Wait, maybe there is,” he offered a glimmer of hope. “I’m not entirely sure at this point. There are a lot of contingencies.” Gotye may have taken a break from releasing music under his name, but he is still heavily involved in music. He is a member of the band called The Basic who continue to release music. He is also the founder of two labels record labels
There is hope for fans who are looking forward to Gotye’s music, as he recently spoke about the release of a new album. In June 2018, she announced that the album would include a tribute to electronic music pioneer Jean-Jacques Perrey. In July 2020, Gotye launched Live in the song rooma live album recorded by Gotye’s bandmates from The Basics.
Gotye has always spoken of his love for the music-making process. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that she is taking some time before releasing her long-awaited fourth album. One Reddit user explained:

I mean, I heard an interview from a few years ago that made a lot of sense to me about putting a record together over a long period of time until I’m happy with it (like the last two of it). In 2012, CNN erroneously reported that Gotye had committed suicide.

“At 4:32am EST, Gotye was reported to have shot himself in the head with a 9mm pistol. He was pronounced dead at 4:45 am and the inquest concluded that the cause of death was suicide. It was confirmed shortly after by family and friends.”
People believed the story because it came from an apparently credible source. However, anyone in the world could upload a story to CNN iReport without CNN’s approval. The fake story was uploaded by a user named MJTheDestroy, but that didn’t stop people from sharing it.
gotye discredited reports of his death on Twitter: “I’m not dead.”
