One of Snapchat’s key features is its color-coded interface, but what does a purple circle around a user’s story mean? While adding colors to a user interface makes it more appealing, too many colors can be confusing. For example, on the Chat screen, users may see red, blue, or purple icons, each of which mean something different. A red square means there’s a new Snap without audio, a purple square means a new Snap with audio, while a blue square means there’s a new chat message.
Another example would be the rings and symbols that appear around a Snapchat Story. Users must have noticed that when they view a friend’s Story through the Chat section, it has a blue ring around it, and when they access it through the Stories page, it has a purple ring around it. What is the difference between these two, and what does the purple circle around a Snapchat story mean?
Why Some Snapchat Stories Have Purple Rings
The purple ring around a Snapchat story is essentially a design choice. While sending photos and videos on Snapchat, users must have noticed how different app sections are designated with different colors. It is evident from the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen that the Stories page has a purple accent to it. Hence, whenever users view the updates posted by their friends through the Stories page, they will see a purple ring around it. Users can view the same Stories through the Chat page as well, where they appear with a blue ring around the user’s Bitmoji.
The purple circle on the Stories page can appear either with or without a lock. A purple ring with a lock means that the user has been added to the person’s Private Story. This means that the person allows only select users to see their story. Once a user views a Private Story, the ring and lock will turn gray, just like a regular viewed Snapchat Story.
What Is The Purple Circle Around A Snapchat Bitmoji?
Users might also see purple circles around other Snapchatters’ Bitmoji. They usually appear under Quick Add in the Stories page, or in the Add Friends section. In the Stories section, Snapchat displays a row of recommended friends right on top. The users are displayed with their Bitmoji, a purple circle, and a purple Add Friend button. In this case, the purple circle doesn’t really mean anything, and is just a design choice.
Under the Add Friends section, users will notice that only some people in Quick Add have a purple circle around their Bitmoji. All this means is that the person has posted a Story that the user hasn’t seen yet. Tapping on the Bitmoji will play the Story if it’s public. If not, it will take users to the person’s profile page, where they can choose to add the person as a friend on Snapchat.
