Why is Russia part of Europe and Asia?
Geographically, Russia is divided into two parts – European Russia and its Asian part. It shares land borders with sixteen nations, the most of any country in the world.
In the northwest are Norway and Finland; Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland (with Kaliningrad Oblast) in the west; Georgia and Azerbaijan in the southwest; Kazakhstan and Mongolia in the south; China and North Korea in the southeast. It also shares borders with two partially recognized breakaway states, South Ossetia and Abkhazia. It shares maritime borders with Japan and the United States.
It is interesting that Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk lie roughly on the European-Asian border in the Ural Mountains, while Novosibirsk, Omsk and Samara lie on Asian territory.

Who are the inhabitants of Russia?
As already mentioned, a large part of the territory of Russia is located in Asia, and the majority of its population lives in Europe. People from different cultural and traditional backgrounds live in the largest country in the world.
About 77% of the country’s population lives in the territory that is part of Europe, including the capital Moscow. The city is the second most populous in Europe after Istanbul. By ethnicity, more than three quarters of the population are Russian, and Christianity is the largest religion in the country.

Russia: the land of the first
The largest country in the world by area is the country of the first. Russia covers 17,125,191 square kilometers and spans eleven time zones. It contains the deepest lake in the world, Baikal; Europe’s longest river and largest lake, Volga and Ladoga. Outside the North and South Poles, it is the only country in the world that recorded the lowest temperature. It is also home to 30 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
