Wanda Sykes goes way back with fellow comedian Dave Chappelle, but makes it clear that she doesn’t support his anti-trans rhetoric.
The 59-year-old comedian has made comments about laws banning trans women from entering women’s bathrooms.
“I knew it was a very sensitive topic to talk about. “I’m not trans, but you have my support, 100%,” she said.
“I wanted to find something that could shed some light on what they’re going through, to show how stupid and hateful it really is,” Wanda said. Variety. “One time I was in the women’s bathroom and I thought, ‘Who would want to come in here anyway?’ It was like he wanted to go see the men’s room. “Sometimes it’s even cleaner.” And that’s how all that started. Bathrooms have always disgusted me.”

Wanda called his jokes “hurtful and harmful” to the trans community.
“But I know he wanted to say something, because a lot has been said on that platform,” Wanda said of Netflix. I definitely want [say] something on the other side.
Wanda said she would appreciate having a conversation with him now. “I mean, it’s not intentional,” she said about not having spoken to Dave recently. “I still love the guy. But I haven’t had a chance to talk to him. If our paths crossed, I would definitely say something.
