Vinod Kambli is a former Indian cricketer who played for the Indian national cricket team from 1991 to 2000. He is also a cricket coach at his Khel Bharti Sports Academy and MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Academy. He is a childhood friend of Sachin Tendulkar. Apart from playing cricket, he also tried his hand in the field of acting and appeared in some films.

Vinod Kambli was born on Tuesday, 18 January 1972 (age 51 years; as of 2023) in Bombay (now, Mumbai), Maharashtra, India. He received his primary education from Our Lady of Dolors, Marine Lines, Mumbai and later, he went to Shardaashram Vidyamandir, Dadar, Mumbai. His educational qualification is only 10th class. He lived in a poor family of 18 members in a chawl in Mumbai. His father was a mechanic. Since childhood he had a desire to become a cricketer. He used to play this game a lot.
He, Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Couto (classmates of Sachin and Kambli) played together at Shivaji Park under the guidance of their coach Ramakant Achrekar.
At first all three (Sachin, Kambli and Ricky) studied in different schools, however, later, on the suggestion of their coach Ramakant Achrekar, they were admitted to Shardashram Vidyamandir in Dadar. As children, Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar made a record partnership of 664 runs for Sharadashram Vidyamandir, which scored 748 for two against St. Xavier’s School during the semi-finals of the Harris Shield tournament. Kambli had scored unbeaten 349 runs in that innings. The pair were stopped by their coach Ramakant Achrekar, who forced them to declare the innings.

Kambli was born to Ganpat Kambli and Vijaya Kambli.
He has three brothers; Virendra Kambli, Vidyadhar Kambli, Vikas Kambli and a sister, Vidya Kambli.
In 1998, he married Noella Lewis who worked as a receptionist at Hotel Blue Diamond, Pune.
The couple later divorced and Kambli married fashion model Andrea Hewitt. They have a son named Jesus Cristiano Kambli and a daughter named Johanna Cristiano.

During the 1989–90 season, he made his first-class debut for Mumbai. In his first match of Ranji Trophy, he hit a six on the very first ball. Due to his good performances in first-class cricket, he was selected in the national team and made his ODI debut against Pakistan in 1991. The following year, he made his Test debut against England at the Eden Gardens Stadium. His first ODI century came against England on his birthday in 1993. He scored his first Test century in his second Test match against England. He scored 224 runs.
In the next test match, he again scored a double century (227 runs) against Zimbabwe. Thanks to his consecutive centuries, he became the fastest Indian batsman to score 1000 runs in just 14 innings. He scored four centuries in his Test career. He played his last Test match against New Zealand in 1995 when he was only 24 years old. His decline in cricket started after the 1996 Cricket World Cup. His form also declined, as he scored 50+ only once in his last 22 ODI innings. He played his last ODI on 29 October 2000. After this, he could not manage his selection in the national team again. Formally, he announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in 2009 and from first-class cricket in 2011.

- In 2009, he appeared in a reality show, ‘Sach Ka Saamna’, in which he said that his friend, Sachin Tendulkar could help him in his tough times. He also said that he was hurt when Sachin did not mention his name in his retirement speech at the end of his 200th Test and did not invite him to the party he hosted after his retirement.
- In 2015, he and his wife were accused of harassing their maid Soni Sarsal. His maid Soni Sarsal had also lodged an FIR against Kambli and his wife. According to Soni Sarsal, Kambli and his wife Andrea did not allow him to return home and when he asked for wages, they kept him wrongly confined for three days.
- In July 2018, Kambli and his wife Andrea were reported to have assaulted singer Ankit Tiwari’s father Raj Kumar Tiwari in a mall in Mumbai. Raj Kumar Tiwari has filed a complaint against Vinod Kambli and his wife for punching them in a mall.
- On 27 February 2022, he rammed his car into the gate of his residential society in Bandra, Mumbai, after which he was arrested by the police and later released on bail. According to sources, the cricketer also had an argument with the watchman and some residents of the residential complex.
- On 3 February 2023, his second wife Andrea filed a complaint against him at the Bandra Police Station, in which she accused him of assaulting her in the presence of their two children. Andrea said in her complaint that Kambli, under the influence of alcohol, became violent and tried to hit her with a pan and a bat, causing injuries on her head.
