early life
Vijay Rawat was born and brought up in Pauri city of Uttarakhand, India. Vijay Rawat’s family has been serving the Indian Army for three generations. His father was a former Lieutenant-General of the Indian Army Staff, who retired in 1988, and in 1951, his father was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles. Vijay Rawat’s maternal grandfather was Kishan Singh Parmar who was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Uttarkashi.
political career
Vijay Rawat started his political career in 2022 after his retirement from the Indian Army. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party on 19 January 2022. Before joining BJP he attended a meeting with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and he said in a media conference that the views of his late brother Bipin Rawat match his views. Directed by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for the welfare of the state. He said,
I like the vision of the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for the state. This matches what my brother had in mind. BJP also has the same mentality.”

- In December 2021, Vijay Rawat’s elder brother Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat, along with 10 other Indian Army personnel, were killed in a helicopter crash that occurred due to poor weather conditions in Tamil Nadu, India.
- Bharat Singh Rawat is Vijay Rawat’s uncle, and he is retired from the Indian Army with the rank of Havildar (non-commissioned officer). Vijay Rawat’s other uncle Harinandan is also a retired Indian Army officer.

- During a media conference of Bharatiya Janata Party on 19 January 2022, Vijay Rawat said that his father had joined BJP after retirement and Vijay Rawat is feeling grateful to get the same opportunity. He further said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision was futuristic, and Modi’s ideas were out-of-the-box. He said,
I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to join BJP. My father was in BJP after retirement and now I have got a chance. PM Modi’s vision and thinking is very sensible and futuristic. PM Modi thinks out of the box and all his efforts are for the betterment of the country.”
