Video of New Year’s Eve sea of smartphones horrifies the Internet

Just seconds before the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve, a sea of smartphones rushed to not only capture the beginning of 2024, but also horrify social media users around the world.

In one of his recent posts on X (formerly Twitter), Luke Rudkowski was quick to share his thoughts on the now infamous view of Paris. “This clip is absolutely terrifying to me,” he declared. The clip showed hundreds of spectators holding their phones as the New Year’s Eve clock counted down at the Arc de Triomphe. Even after the countdown, no one was jumping around celebrating the new year.

Others were quick to point out the disturbing scene and wonder exactly what was going on. “No one jumping? Celebrating? Kisses? Hugs? Even high fives with strangers? Nothing?”

Another X user couldn’t help but be skeptical. “This is AI. Must be. There are 50,000 people, at least. There is not a single outburst in the entire crowd. Nobody goes crazy in the entire picture. The camera is almost too stable. Look at each phone while it ‘records’. There is a Dr. Mario luminescent pill on top of everyone. Mine doesn’t have that.”

Meanwhile, one X user couldn’t help but find it ironic that people were outraged by the video. “The irony of this is that we all look at this clip with disdain… Thanks to the guy who videotaped it on his phone so we could all watch it on our phones and then comment on it on our phones because we are all watching life through our phones ”.
