Death
Vedika died after being shot by Priyansh on 26 June 2023 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
Vedika murder case
On 16 June 2023, Vedika was seriously injured after being shot by Priyansh Vishwakarma in her office in Dhanwantri Nagar. Instead of seeking medical help immediately, Priyansh drove around in his car with Vedika for almost four hours. Eventually, he took her to Smart City Hospital but later fled the hospital with the gun used in the shooting and the CCTV footage from his office. After this, Priyansh approaches Vedika’s brother to inform him about the incident. On 18 June 2023, a video surfaced showing Vedika receiving medical care in the hospital. In the footage, she was heard confirming that it was Priyansh who shot her.

On June 19, 2023, Priyansh was caught by the police from Narsinghpur district. After his arrest, he confessed to shooting Vedika. He reached Dhanwantri Nagar police station in a black Scorpio vehicle decorated with BJP flags. Initially, the police did not register a case within 24 hours, but after Vedika’s relatives raised concerns about police inaction, a case was eventually registered against Priyansh at the Sanjeevani Nagar police station. The charges filed against him include IPC section 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and sections 25 and 26 of the Arms Act.

According to Vedika’s uncle Ashok Thakur, initially there was some improvement in her condition. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated due to the bullet being lodged in his back, causing infection throughout his body. He underwent stomach surgery, but his condition continued to deteriorate. As a result, he was put on a ventilator on 24 June 2023. His organs began to fail and on 26 June 2023, at around 11:30 pm, doctors declared him dead. Doctors said that Vedika’s organs were gradually failing and even after a week of the incident, it was not possible to remove the bullet from her spinal cord.

After Vedika’s tragic death, the police increase the charges against Priyansh to murder. They also sent the bullet recovered from Vedika’s body to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis and testing.

In response to the incident, the BJP issued an official statement denying any association or affiliation of Priyansh to their party. BJP Jabalpur President Prabhat Sahu issued a press release and said,
Ganganagar resident Priyansh Vishwakarma, the suspect in the recent firing, does not hold any post in the Bharatiya Janata Party.
