In 2000, he made his debut as a child actor with the Telugu film ‘Hands Up!’ in which he played the role of Varun.

It wasn’t an overnight decision to become an actor. One day pedananna (Chiranjeevi) and I went to watch Magadheera’s shooting. At that time somebody clicked my photo and pedananna saw it and told me to try working in films as he felt my face was photogenic.

On 12 June 2019, in a car accident in Rayanipeta, Wanaparthy district, the Mercedes Benz car that Varun Teja was in crashed into a TATA Indica car. The driver of the Indica turned left towards Rayanipeta village, and because the Benz car was going too fast, the driver couldn’t slow down in time. The local police reported that the four people in the Indica car had minor injuries, while Varun and three others were not hurt. Varun was on his way from Hyderabad to Bengaluru with his driver and two others for a film shoot. While addressing the media, the local police said,
