Utsav Sarkar was born on 4 February in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Their zodiac sign is Aquarius. Utsav studied in a boarding school in Panchgani, Maharashtra. She completed her Bachelor of Mass Communication degree from Usha Praveen Gandhi College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Vile Parle, Mumbai (2012-2015). Utsav earned a Master of Performing Arts degree from the Academy of Theater Arts, University of Mumbai in Mumbai (2015-2017). He was brought up by his mother only.

Since his school days, Utsav was very fond of performing on stage. He started participating in school plays and drama competitions. While studying in college, Utsav acted in several theatrical productions such as The Glass Menagerie, Banjh, Khariya Ka Ghera, The Two of Us, A Doll’s House and Dhik Tam.
In January 2022, Utsav Sarkar’s drama The Two of Us, in which he played the role of Nikhil, premiered on YouTube.

Shayantan is an aspiring poet who wants fame and everything that comes with it, but is stuck in a 9 to 5 job to support his family. He is an ambitious person who keeps things to himself and talks only in poetry. I relate to him in the sense that the things we are most passionate about may not always earn us a livelihood and sometimes we have to do work we don’t like. However, Shayantan’s struggle is tougher than mine because I am fortunate that I get to do what I love for a living. He doesn’t have the freedom to do so and that’s his anger.”

After completing his post-graduation, Utsav worked as a screenwriter for various production houses in Mumbai. In December 2019, Utsav started as an associate screenwriter at Happy Digital in Mumbai and he worked there for a period of three months. In February 2020, he joined Prakash Jha Productions Pvt Ltd in Mumbai as an assistant screenwriter and worked there for about four months. Later, he joined Buddybits in Mumbai and worked as a creative producer and screenwriter there. In December 2020, he worked as an approved writer at Third Bell Productions in Mumbai.

- Utsav has worked under the guidance of some of the renowned directors/screenwriters like Sai Paranjape, Prakash Jha, Nadira Babbar and Sanjay Upadhyay.
- In an interview, when Utsav was asked how he started his career as a screenwriter, he replied,
“I was not selected for a role in the play that I wanted so much. I worked hard, prepared for months, but I didn’t get it. I took it hard. Self-doubt set in. To deal with this, I started writing. Plays, scripts, whatever comes to mind. At that time, I just wanted to feel better about myself. During this period, one of the short films I wrote was bought by a company by paying a handsome amount. And this is where my luck shined and smiled. In a way, my foray into screenwriting began because of rejection.”
