Usher tells fans what to expect from his Super Bowl halftime performance

With Super Bowl LVIII just weeks away, Usher reveals to fans what to expect from his game day performance.

During his recent interview with Fashion, he Burn The singer talked about his next show. “People will tune in to a football game, but I hope that when they watch that halftime performance, I hope they take away something that’s healing them,” he said. “Something that makes them feel hope, and not just look at the past, but have hope for the future, and have hope for a different kind of future when we look right now in the present.”

Usher also said that he knows that from now until the Super Bowl will be the most difficult time of his life. “Every night I go out and I’m present before I go on stage,” he explained. “Maybe no one else knows I’m doing this, but I walk to the edge of the stage, and I look up, and I can remember when there was no one here, and it was hard, and it felt like no one was going to come.”

The R&B superstar is keeping hope in the show. “I see [fans] having a great time,” he continued. “And I said, ‘Here it is, honor that moment.’ Now go have a good time.”

Usher then stated that he plans to make his 13-minute performance memorable. “It has to be perfect.”

“I’ve been doing this for 30 years,” he explained of the show. “I want people who have been a part of that journey to feel like it’s a celebration for everyone, for all of us, from the beginning to this moment.”

Meanwhile, Usher opened up about who inspires him and his music. He said Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Prince are all those he admires. “I’m thinking about the fact that I was able to walk through the front door because of his sacrifice and ability,” he said of the musicians. “So I carry a little bit of that. It has made me feel happy. He made me feel like I wanted to go out and I want the world to smile when they look at me.”

Usher added that he wants the audience to feel something. “Feel my passion, my love, feel that I am the right person to be in this position and that I am the right person to bring this kind of energy, love and connection to the whole world.”
