In 2008, he joined a Pakistani music band called Qayaas as a singer. Umair was spotted by Pakistani guitarist Khurram Waqar at a concert in 2008 and selected him for Qayaas. In the same year, Qayas released the Urdu song ‘Pal’. In 2009, the band released two Urdu songs “Umeed” and “Tanha” which became very popular. In 2012, the band released the Urdu music album ‘Us Paar’. Some other songs released by the band are “Heel” (2012) and “Cut My Wings” (2013).
