Tulsi Ramsay (1944–2018) was an Indian director best known for directing several horror films during the 80s and 90s. He is considered the pioneer of the horror genre in Bollywood.

Tulsi Ramsay was born on Tuesday, 29 July 1941 (age 77 at death) in Karachi, Sindh, British India. Tulsi Ramsay’s family roots are in Karachi. After the partition of India, the family moved to Bombay (now Mumbai).

His father, Fatechand Uttamchand (FU) Ramsay (deceased), was a radio engineer; However, he started selling clothes to meet the expenses of his large family, which included seven sons and two daughters. Basil was one of the famous seven Ramsay brothers and had two sisters. The six brothers are Kumar Ramsay (eldest), Shyam Ramsay, Keshu Ramsay, Arjun Ramsay, Gangu Ramsay and Kiran Ramsay. His sisters’ names are Asha and Kamala.

Death

Tulsi Kumar died at his home on 14 December 2018. Reportedly, Tulsi Ramsay was rushed to Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai due to chest pain and heart attack. He died after returning home.

  • According to Alisha Kripalani, Tusli Ramsay’s niece, Tulsi and Shyam directed the first film in 1971, a Sindhi horror film, Nakli Shaan.
  • Reportedly, during the shooting of the film ‘Do Gaj Zameen Ke Neeche’ in 1971, Tulsi Ramsay and the team accidentally found a dead body under the ground. In an interview, Tulsi Ramsay shared some of her experiences shooting for the film. He revealed that he once experienced the presence of a spirit as he heard loud breathing and footsteps at 2:30 in the night; However, he ran towards the guesthouse a kilometer away from the shooting site and realized that the sounds of breathing and footsteps were his.
