Troye Sivan Responds to Backlash Over Lack of Body Diversity in ‘Rush’ Music Video

Troye Sivan is addressing the backlash surrounding his new music video.

Last week, the 28-year-old singer released the music video for his new song “Rush,” and many people took issue with the lack of body diversity in the video.

In a new interview, Troye reacted to the backlash and also addressed people critiquing his own body.

“I definitely hear the critique,” Troye shared with Billboard. “To be honest, it just wasn’t a thought we had — we obviously weren’t saying, ‘We want to have one specific type of person in the video.’ We just made the video, and there wasn’t a ton of thought put behind that.”

Troye then clapped back at people criticizing his appearance.

“There was this article … and they were talking about [the lack of body diversity], and in the same sentence, this person said ‘Eat something, you stupid twinks,’” Troye said. “That really bummed me out to read that — because I’ve had my own insecurities with my body image.”

He continued, “I think that everyone’s body is as beautiful as it is, including my own, and it just sucks to see people talking about other people’s bodies.”

In interview from earlier this year, Troye addressed queer representation in media.
