According to Deadline, the tribute event has been “indefinitely postponed” due to the ongoing WGA writers’ strike.
“For nearly half a century, the AFI Life Achievement Award has convened artists and audiences to celebrate excellence in the art form,” an AFI spokesperson shared with the outlet. “Due to the division in our community at this time, AFI has decided to postpone this year’s event with the goal of providing a celebratory atmosphere worthy of our recipient.”
At the time of the announcement, Nicole was making history as the first Australian actress to achieve the honour.
“Nicole Kidman has captivated audiences for decades with the boldness of her art and the glamor of a screen icon,” said Kathleen Kennedy, AFI Board of Directors. “She is a fearless force both in her choices and in every performance. AFI is honored to present to you the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award.”
Julie Andrews, Denzel Washington and George Clooney are recent honorees and award winners.
