Titas Sadhu is an Indian cricketer who became the player of the match in the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023 won by the ICC Under-19 Indian Women’s team. She is a right-hand batsman and right-arm medium bowler.

Titas Ranadeep Sadhu was born on Wednesday, 29 September 2004 (age 18 years; as of 2022) in Chinsura, West Bengal. Her zodiac sign is Libra. After her birth, her mother started living with her grandmother in Krishnanagar, West Bengal. When Titas grew up, her father got posted to Ranchi and they shifted there. After some time, they started living in Kolkata but had to leave the place because there were very few school options for Titas to play there. So, they started living in Chinsurah, West Bengal where she could play in their ancestral club. The name of the club was ‘Rajendra Smirti Sangh’ which she used to visit during the cricket matches to keep the score checked. She was not interested in cricket from the beginning. She started with swimming in class one and then played table tennis. One day when she was in the club, the match got cancelled due to rain, so her father asked her to throw a bowl and that was the moment she decided to take up cricket professionally.

Career

Domestic Cricket

Titas’s childhood coach Priyankar Mukherjee requested the Bengal team’s bowling coach Shib Shankar Paul to train her. When she was 13 years old, she went for the trial for the West Bengal team where she was rejected. Next year, she wanted to give trials but decided to focus on her 10th board exams first in which she 90 per cent marks. In 2020, she was given an opportunity to become part of the Bengal team as a bowler. She debuted at the age of 16 as the youngest member of the team. In the two matches she played as a part of the team, her performance was not very good which is why she was dropped from the team. She improved her game by playing in the matches organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal. In 2022, she played in the Women’s T20 tournament and took 7 wickets in 5 matches which made her the highest wicket-taker. This performance of hers got her an entry into the Bengal senior team. As a part of the Bengal team, she played the Women’s U19 T20 Quadrangular series that saw India A, India B, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies which helped her gain some experience for the World Cup.

International Cricket

She made her T20 debut on 27 December 2022 against South Africa in Pretoria. In 2023, she became the player of the match in the T20 World Cup in South Africa for taking six wickets. She became the first-ever cricketer from Bengal to win the award in an ICC World Cup final. In an interview, she talked about winning the World Cup and said,

I think consistency bore fruit. The day before the final. I went for the practice session and bowled a couple of overs on the single wicket and was trying to hit the right line and length. I wanted to perform for my team, so that intent was there and apart from that, I spoke to the coaches and watched videos to identify which deliveries could get me a wicket.”
