He previously played for TSV Höchst (1986-1994), FTG Frankfurt (1994-1995) and TTV Gönnern (1995-2007). His three-year contract with Borussia Düsseldorf began on 1 July 2007. He is widely regarded as one of the best table tennis players of his generation.
