Sad news: Tim Wakefield’s widow Stacy has passed away. Stacy Wakefield’s death comes a few months after that of the Major League pitcher. Tim Wakefield made a name for himself with the Red Sox, winning the World Series in 2004 and 2007.

The pitcher later moved into broadcasting. Tim Wakefield passed away last October at the age of 57 after a battle with brain cancer. Nearly five months later, Wakefield’s widow, Stacy, also died.

On social media, the Red Sox organization issued a statement announcing Stacy’s passing. It turns out that Stacy also had cancer. She reportedly battled pancreatic cancer before passing away.

In the statement, the family wanted to thank the medical team who helped Stacy in her battle against cancer. Stacy leaves behind two teenage children, Trevor and Brianna.

“We will remember Stacy as a strong, loving, thoughtful and kind person who was down to earth. “We feel very lucky to have had her in our lives and take comfort in the fact that she will be reunited with Tim, the love of her life,” the statement continued. The family is mourning the loss of both. “We would like to thank all of Stacy’s doctors, nurses and caregivers who helped her from diagnosis to today; We are eternally grateful for her unmatched care and support. And to all of you who have sent us well wishes over these past few months, we really appreciate her kindness.”
