‘Three by Three’ Alum Candace Cameron Bure Details ‘Embarrassing’ Mental Health Struggles

Candace Cameron Bure, who played DJ Tanner in Full house, recently opened up about his mental health issues. In his March 26 podcast, Candace Cameron Bure PodcastCandace opened up about her current battle with depression.

“It feels so embarrassing and so alone,” Candace said. “It’s very difficult to talk about it, even with the most trusted people. At least for me, I feel like I should be strong enough to overcome that and then I feel very weak.”

This is a common experience for many people who suffer from depression. It often seems like you are aware of how deeply you are suffering (and even ways you can help yourself) but you can’t turn it off.

“I can try so hard to get out of this and I can’t get out of the hole,” Candace said. “But it’s hard to reach out and say, ‘Help me.’”

It doesn’t help that much of society shames people for how they handle their depression. In fact, it seems that those who never had to experience the disorder are the ones who spew the most hate and judgment.

“I will also say that there are a lot of people who feel like he’s weak and will verbalize it,” Candace explained. “So it’s an immediate shame that you say, ‘Oh, well, if I struggle with this, then I’m a weak person.’”
