Copenhagen
After playing for FC Copenhagen’s youth team at various levels, Delaney made his professional debut in an unofficial friendly in August 2008. Delaney was promoted to the first team during the 2009 summer break. He played his first match in another continent against FK Morgen in the Champions League qualifying round. He also scored against Copenhagen in that match. On 9 August 2009, he played his first Super League match against SonderjyskE.
On 6 July 2013, he signed a contract extension with Copenhagen until 2015. He also received the number 8 on his shirt. He then became a full-time starter for the next few seasons. He has played in matches against Galatasaray, Juventus and Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Again, on 23 January 2014, Delaney extended his contract for another year, which ran until 2017. At that time, he was also promoted to vice captain of the team. Six months later, Delaney became his club captain.

On 7 June 2018, Delaney signed a 4-year contract with Borussia Dortmund to play for them. Werder Bremen is said to have received 20 million euros for the player. Delaney came on for Dortmund’s second half in a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig in the 2021 German Cup Final on 13 May 2021.
Seville
Delaney moved to Spain on August 25, 2021 to sign a four-year contract with La Liga side Sevilla for a fee reported by Diario de Sevilla of €7 million.

Thomas Delaney played for his national team both as a youth and as an adult. He did that in many tournaments. In October 2008, he played his first match for the Denmark U18 national team and played 3 more matches. He also played 11 matches for the Denmark U19 national team.
On 11 August 2010, Delaney played his first match for Denmark under-21 team against Italy under-21 team.
Delaney’s first match with the senior international team was on 15 October 2013 against Malta. It was the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification. On 1 September 2017, he scored his first goal for his country in a match against Poland in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
