Now, the “Blinding Lights” singer, 33, once again responds to his critics in a new interview.
The Weeknd says what worries him most is how critics have hurt the people around him.

“That’s what I’m learning about the movie business, is that when people start rumors, it really hurts a lot of other people,” he said. Interview. “A lot of people work hard on these projects. When I’m in my world and you guys come to me, it’s like, okay, cool. I’m a big boy. I can find out. But having 200 people working hard on a project like this, that hurts. Especially when what they say is far from the truth, but what can you do?”
The Weeknd says his co-star Lily Rose-Depp is the strongest in the face of criticism.
“I’m more used to it than someone like Sam, who’s probably a little bit used to it already. And I’m sure Lily, definitely Lily is stronger than both of us,” he said.
The Weeknd said he relies on the fact that he has people around him who really know him and who help him withstand criticism.
“But I have been judged from the beginning. My stuff has always been a little provocative,” she said. “I understand that it’s hard for people to separate that sometimes and that some people want to have an opinion about you, even if it’s not true. As an artist, you have to know that you can’t please everyone and you have to accept that that comes with the job. You have to remind yourself that everyone who knows you knows you are a good person. If you go out trying to prove to people that you are a good person all the time, then it becomes a dead end. But what I have learned is that in time people will learn to understand. But I have tough skin. I’m used to it.”
The Weeknd and his girlfriend Simi Khadra are still a strong couple in the Coachella Music Festival 2023.
