This piece will focus on Jay Shetty’s wife, Radhi Devlukia-Shetty.
Radhi lost her self-confidence as a child due to bullying, but she regained it through meditation.
Roshni Devlukia was born on July 30, 1990 in England. Her family affectionately referred to her as Radhi, and her name stuck to her. Radhi always stood out as the chubby one in her family, but did not care for her as her parents cultivated a culture of self-love for her.
However, Radhi’s perspective changed when her classmates started bullying her for her chubby body. Radhi did not lose the sense of her own love for her, but her self-confidence suffered a blow. She ached inside as she realized that her value to people depended on her outward appearance. She said women of impact:
“You end up seeing people around you and girls around you and the kind of people that you end up liking or disliking. And you realize that that has a lot to do with your physical form. They intimidated me for it or left me out of things.”
The biggest effect of bullying is that Radhi began to adapt her life to what others expected of her. Radhi’s desire to appease others prevented her from living a fulfilling life as she always thought what others would think.
Devlukia recovered when she discovered the power of meditation. He had grown up in a spiritual home, but he was never really in touch with his spirituality before meditation became part of his daily routine. Over time, Radhi regained her self-confidence and her self-esteem grew to previously unknown levels. Through meditation, Radhi also found her love for serving people. She said Coconut Eco Magazine:
“What is life without service? That is the best thing I learned in this Vedic culture and this path is that it is all about service and we get more joy from serving other people than from taking. Anything we can do to make it easier for us to be the best versions of ourselves is such a beautiful practice and meditation to keep for a lifetime.”
Radhi Devlukia spreads motivation through social media and his website. She has been posting motivational content on Instagram for a while now and recently launched a YouTube channel with a host of inspirational videos.
Devlukia’s parents and grandmother continue to inspire her love of healthy cooking.
Devlukia affectionately refers to her mom and dad as Mama Bear and Papa Bear, respectively, and to her grandmother as Superstar BAA. The three personalities inspired Radhi’s love of cooking. Thanks to them, everyone in the house claims to be master chefs. “My grandmothers, mom, dad and sister all learned some important cooking skills,” Radhi writes on his website.
Radhi refers to her mother as her biggest influence, and it was her who inspired Radhi to study nutrition and dietetics at university. After getting married, Radhi and Jay bought a house near Mama Bear’s residence, as Radhi felt that she still had a lot to learn from her mother. However, three weeks after moving in, the couple left for New York and then Los Angeles. Despite the distance, Radhi still cooks with her mom and her grandmother. She said Coconut Eco Magazine:
“I make my breakfast while my mom makes her lunch, and we are always talking on the phone. I call her on everything and she has actually become one of my best friends!”
Moving to the US turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Radhi when he discovered Divya Alter, an Ayurvedic restaurant owner in New York City. In order to learn all she could from Divya, Radhi offered to help out in the kitchen. “She is so authentic in her practice, and I just fell in love with it,” Devlukia said.
Radhi easily incorporated Ayurveda into her life because it nourished her body as well as her mind and soul. “I learned it through my spiritual and Ayurvedic practice, which are intertwined,” Devlukia revealed. She added:
“It is about a mindful eating practice and a mindful practice related to cooking, and the end is the prayer of Gratitude. The mindset and energy you put into your food has the potential to affect your body. It’s about finding moments in your day where you find mindfulness, and cooking and eating should be a part of that.”
Radhi and Jay met when he was a monk and tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in 2016.
Interestingly, Jay met Radhi’s mother before he met his future wife. While learning to be a monk, Jay was instructed to take Radhi’s mother through a particular routine. It was the first time Jay had been entrusted with such a task. Radhi’s mom liked Jay, and she gave him Radhi’s contact so that he could contact her.
Shetty’s main focus at the time was spirituality, so she passed the number on to her sister. Radhi’s sister and Jay became first friends with her and through her, she met Jay. At the time, Jay was a tattooed monk who thought little of romance, but Radhi saw him as someone she could date in the future. Radhi revealed in On Aim that she was in awe of Jay:
“I was in awe of him. He also looked very good, he had a bald head. He didn’t seem like the type of person who would be thinking about these things because he had tattoos and was bald, but he was in a robe. And I was like, ‘This is really cool, but weird at the same time.
Radhi told Jay’s sister that she was interested in him, and Jay’s sister spilled the beans. It was then that Jay started seeing Radhi as a potential match. As time passed, Jay left the monks and grew closer to Radhi.
The couple married in a low-key ceremony in 2016. Due to Jay’s hectic schedule, the couple didn’t have their honeymoon until August 2019. “Thank you for going above and beyond for me, even when it’s not always necessary.” .”, Radhi captioned a photo from their delayed honeymoon. Radhi and Jay regularly show their strong bond through social media. On December 27, 2020, Radhi attached the following caption along with a photo of the couple:
“Make someone laugh/smile today…it really will bring you SO much joy to make someone else happy…and YOU @jayshetty…thank you for always CONSTANTLY trying to make me smile/laugh in any way you can… LET ME TELL YOU AAAALLL. MEN HAVE JOKES AND JOKES FOR DAYS.”
