Candice Patton was born on June 24, 1988 in Jackson, Mississippi. She grew up in Plano, Texas and, in 2003, graduated from Plano East Senior High School. Patton then went on to Southern Methodist University, where she graduated with a BFA in Theater.
Patton had an interest in theater when he was in school, but never thought of it as a career. However, her fate had other plans for her. She tore her ACL while cheering and her injury sidelined her for the entire season. Her injury allowed her to focus more on the theater.
Fate called again when, in college, CBS’ The Young and the Restless did a nationwide search for new characters. They went through her college and Candice won the part. After finishing her part, the directors wanted her to stay, but Candice wanted to complete her studies first.
After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles and contacted the director of the program. However, the director no longer worked with The Young and the Restless. Instead, she was teaching an acting class. Candice didn’t get a role in The Young and the Restlessbut the director introduced Candice to the superstar manager who steers the careers of actors like Halle Berry and Taraji P. Henson.
He convinced the manager to sign Candice. patton said Glamor that she credits young and restless director and her manager for the success she has achieved today;
“I’m still with him today, and it’s those people who have really shaped my career.”
She has multiple show appearances.
Patton’s manager quickly got to work, and she managed to land prominent roles on many television shows. Between 2007 and 2011 she made brief appearances on TV shows like The daring and the pretty, Entourage, Heroes, one tree hill, Castle, Arena, Grey’s Anatomy, rizzoli and islands, and many more. She also made appearances in the movies, The Craigslist Killer, commander and bossand, The guests.
In 2013, she played the role of Tori in eight episodes of The game. In 2014, he landed the role of Irish West on CW, The flash. He also plays the role of Irish West in supergirl, Arrowand legends of tomorrow.
She almost ruined her audition for The flash
for candice, The flash it represented a great opportunity to make a breakthrough in Hollywood. However, despite her preparations, she almost squandered her chance to appear on the hit show. She said Glamor;
“…I felt like I was being bombarded. There was a line about Channing Tatum, and I couldn’t remember his name to save my life. I kept messing it up… I thought he was dead in the water…”
However, the directors saw some promise in her and called her in after a couple of months to do a chemistry read with Grant Gustin. Grant plays the role of Flash/Barry Allen and the love interest of Iris West.
Candice knew that her audition with Grant had to be special for her to get the part. She therefore decided to tickle Barry during his two-minute audition, and the directors loved it. candice said Glamor that she had to show chemistry with Grant and that’s why she tickled him;
“How do you recreate that in two minutes in an audition? At that point, the only thing I could think of to make him smile or laugh was to physically grab him and tickle him. They loved it because they thought it was really charming. That’s one of the few times that touching someone works.”
The audition was a success, and within a couple of days, the directors told her that she had landed the part. She said Marie Claire that getting the part was one of the best moments of his life;
“I still have a text saved from Geoff Johns in DC, who texted me after I was cast as Iris saying, ‘I’m so glad I cast you as Iris West. I’ll probably keep it forever.”
Her role as Iris West changed her life.
Candice admitted that she was almost at a breaking point when she landed the role of Iris West. Patton had spent close to a decade in Hollywood without much progress. She said Glamor that he was almost giving up;
“It was a time where I tried a lot of roles… and you get to the point where you burn out and you don’t know if you can’t hear anymore… There were definitely times where I could have walked away.”
It got to a point where she began to doubt herself as an actress and as a person;
“It’s me? Is there something fundamentally wrong with me? Am I not pretty enough? Am I not skinny enough? Talented enough?”
However, her strong will and determination kept her going. She admits that playing the role of Iris West has changed her life. She said Marie Claire;
“This role and experience has taught me a lot. It’s hard to put into words, but I have seen myself grow in confidence and strength over the past four years while in this position. Thank you, Iris West-Allen.”
There was a bit of controversy surrounding her role as Iris West.
To land the role of Iris West, Candice had to beat out Keke Palmer and Ciara Renee, who had auditioned for the role. At the time, she was nowhere near the two actors in terms of fame and experience, but she still got the role. Ciara now plays the role of Kendra Saunders opposite Candice in DC’s legends of tomorrow.
Controversy over her role arose from a section of fans who believed that the role of Iris West should have gone to a white woman. In the comics, Iris West is a white woman and the show’s purists wanted a white woman to play her. Ironically, the criticism came after several black actors played roles of white characters in comics.
for example in the Avengers, Samuel L. Jackson plays the role of Nick Fury, who was white in the comics. Candice didn’t let the criticism get to her and instead decided to focus on landing the role for herself. Fans and critics alike can now agree that she perfectly plays the role of Iris West.
He once worked at Bubba Gump Shrimp
When Candice arrived in Los Angeles, she began working at Bubba Gump Shrimp. She wanted something to occupy her time while she pursued acting opportunities. However, she quit after two days when management asked her to memorize the names of the shrimp on the menu. She said Glamor;
“There are so many shrimp on that menu! And here’s the thing: I don’t like shrimp! I remember when I was being tasted the shrimp, what’s in the shrimp, how the shrimp is prepared, what it’s marinated in, and I remember thinking, ‘I hate this. I can’t do this I leave it”
At that moment, he realized that he had to make acting work. However, he says that he only quit because he had a little money to support himself between roles. She had enough money to rent and buy, so she was comfortable with quitting.
she is photophobic
Candice is an absolutely stunning actress, and you’d think she loves being on camera all the time. However, she says that she hates taking photos. She said Glamor;
“I hate them. I have my insecurities, and some days you don’t want to be photographed. You notice all your flaws even if others don’t. Photo shoots also feel very vain because it’s all about you, your appearance, and your face.”
He goes on to explain that he would rather have coffee with a fan than take a picture with them. Candice says that she feels the pressure that people put on actors to look perfect every day.
she works with charity
