Mia Dio is an American social media star who became famous for posting story time videos to her self-titled YouTube channel. Currently, Ella Mia has amassed over 27,000 subscribers to the channel, which she occasionally fills with vlogs, makeup tutorials, challenges, and true crime stories.
Dio is very successful on TikTok, with 1.4 million followers and more than 26 million likes on his videos. Mia wasn’t famous for producing funny content before TikTok, but the lip-syncing app has brought out the comedic side of her. The self-confessed Russian sugar baby is quite the creative comedian, and it’s unlikely you’ll find her content anywhere else.
This article will focus on Mia’s family, the result of her traumatic high school experience, and her parents.
Mia was 15 years old when her mom revealed that the father who raised her was not her biological father.
Mia Dio was born on May 14, 2001 to Claudia and Luis Dio in Miami, Florida. She grew up with four brothers and one sister. Growing up, she Mia learned that she had three half-siblings because Luis had three children before beginning his relationship with Claudia.
Claudia was quite young when she started dating Luis. Most women her age would have aspired to enjoy life a little more before entering a serious relationship in the hope of starting a family. However, Claudia had her sights set on being a mother and raising children. She settled in with Luis, and after a while, the couple welcomed their first child. Unfortunately, Claudia and Luis had a fight and got separated.
During a modeling concert, Claudia met a charismatic Chilean, with whom she eventually began dating. After spending time with her Chilean lover, Claudia realized that she had abandoned the family values she held most dear. She therefore ended the relationship and approached Luis to try to patch things up. Mia explained in a video posted on December 28, 2017:
“My older brother said something that woke her up: ‘Mom, why aren’t you with my dad?’ She realized how much she valued family, how important family was. She said that I need to stop being so distant. I need to reconnect. I need to fix things. I, as a mother, want to fix things for my eldest son, so to this day, I have great respect for him.”
Claudia was already pregnant with Mia when she met Luis again. However, Luis welcomed her back and chose to raise Mia as her daughter. Mia recognized from a very young age that she resembled her mother and shared similarities with her siblings, but in the back of her mind, she knew something was wrong. It all made sense when her mother told him the story of her conception.
Mia understood why her parents waited so long before telling her the truth. “The reason my father didn’t want to tell me that she wasn’t quite her daughter was because he was afraid she would grow up and think she was different,” she said. “He wanted me to be like that’s the man who’s there for me, that’s the man who raised me, that’s the man who loves me, that’s my father.”
Dio strove to finish high school faster because he couldn’t deal with the bullying he received.
Fans of Mia’s videos know that she refers to high school as hell. Mia’s schoolmates gave her a steamy time due to her social media exploits. You’d think they should have been proud of her accomplishments instead of intimidating her for them. Mia revealed in a video posted on December 15, 2018:
“I was in high school and I absolutely hated it. He hated high school. I hated having a YouTube channel in high school because people would literally crucify me for that channel. They would laugh a lot at me. Even though on the outside it would be like, ‘To them, I’m cool. In the background, she was screaming. I was in a lot of emotional pain.”
Mia asked one of the close counselors if there was any way to speed up her release from school. The counselor told Mia that she had to finish her studies in the stipulated time. Dissatisfied with that answer, Mia took matters into her own hands. She wrote a letter to the principal saying that she needed to graduate by the end of the year or she wouldn’t make it past high school.
Dio pointed to his rising anxiety levels as the reason he had to finish school early. In the video, Ella Mia feels like she could have finished high school anyway, but she had to give early graduation a chance. Eventually, the administration devised a way for Mia to complete her studies early and go straight to university. “I decided to be a dramatic bitch, and it worked,” she said.
The result was that at the age of 17, Mia was a college student. According to hers Mia hers, her only downside was that she had a hard time making friends, but she managed to handle everything else related to college. She said:
“I’m not going to lie, I really didn’t think college was challenging when I was in college. I just think if you can apply yourself decently because I’m still a procrastinator, you’ll still be able to get the grades you want.”
Mia went against her parents’ advice when she opted to have cosmetic surgery to fix her nose.
One of the side effects of Mia’s soccer days was a lump on her nose that she didn’t like. The lump arose after she healed a broken nose that she had sustained. Mia lobbied her parents to allow her to remove the bulge, but was constantly refused. She covered it up with makeup when she could, but as her nose got bigger, it became harder to hide it. Eventually, her parents agreed to allow her to have surgery. She stated in a June 2018 video:
“Although I always preach about self-love, this was always something that haunted me. I love myself as a person, but that one feature stared me right in the face and reminded me that I’m not as pretty as I wish I was.”
The surgeon told Mia that she was beautiful and didn’t need a nose job. However, upon closer inspection, the doctor discovered that she had a deviated septum that needed rectification. Mia’s nose job was successful, but there were complications during the procedure.
Mia’s body temperature went up under the anesthesia instead of going down. Dio is among 1 in 100,000 people who suffer from malignant hyperthermia under anesthesia. Fortunately, the anesthesiologist was quick to react and administered a medication that counteracted the effects of the allergic condition.
