Mikey Williams is an American basketball player who is touted as one of the brightest future talents in the NBA. He currently attends San Ysidro High School in San Diego, California and is the No. 3 pick in the class of 2023. Williams is also considered the face of the future and currently has 2.5 million followers on Instagram. He is followed by celebrities and athletes like Kevin Durant and Drake.
Perhaps Williams’ highest praise is that he is ‘better than Lebron James’. The comparisons don’t get any better than that, but the downside is that there’s a lot of pressure on the youngster’s shoulders. So far, he seems to be dealing with the pressure and is ready to deliver on his immense promise.
Mikey’s father was a professional basketball player, but it was his mother who first taught him how to dribble and shoot.
Mikey was born on June 26, 2004 to Charisse and Mahlon Williams. Mahlon was a basketball player at Sweetwater High School, while Charisse played softball in high school and college.
Mikey showed an interest in basketball when he was very young. Contrary to popular belief, she is Mikey’s mother and not her father who first trained Mikey. Mahlon began training Mikey when he recognized that his son had star potential.
When he was young, Mikey’s dad was considered one of the best players in the NBA, but he got involved with gangs and went to jail.
Mikey is an exceptional basketball player, but at Mikey’s age, Mahlon is said to have been better than his son. Mahlon was a star player and was touted to break NBA records. However, before taking the plunge, he mixed with bands that slowed his growth. Mahlon said Over time:
“I got into the eyes of the whole gang and ended up locked up. I did ten months. I made some mistakes in my life, you know what I mean? I’ve been through some hard things, but we all live. We live we learn.”
Mikey has a chance to do what his dad couldn’t when he came to the NBA. He has a better chance than his father because he is surrounded by positive influences. One of Mikey’s main motivations is to help his family like Lebron James did. Mahlon said Over time:
“He’s actually taking a page out of Lebron’s book. He wants to be able to create that same atmosphere for his children and their parents that Lebron has created for his children and his parents.”
