‘The Marvels’ becomes the lowest-grossing MCU film

the wonders is achieving the kind of milestone that no movie wants to reach.

The latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has failed to attract the masses to theaters, grossing only $47 million domestically in its opening weekend, the lowest figure of any MCU title.

A 2019 sequel Captain Marvel, the wonders brought back Brie Larson as the intergalactic superhero and introduced Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris’ Captain Monica Rambeau as co-stars for the first time on the big screen.

Four weeks since its launch, the wonders has officially become the lowest-grossing film in the franchise, having generated $80 million in North America and $197 million worldwide, according to Variety.

In a statement issued on Sunday (December 3), the studio announced that it will “stop reporting weekend international/global grosses for this title.”

Recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted that a lack of corporate oversight was to blame for the film’s poor box office performance and cast doubt on the future of the MCU in relation to follow-up projects.

“I don’t want to apologize for making sequels. Some of them have worked extraordinarily well and have also been good films,” he stated. “I think there has to be a reason to make them, it has to have a good story. And often the story doesn’t hold up and isn’t as strong as the original story. This can be a problem. That doesn’t mean we won’t continue doing them. In fact, we are making several of them right now. But we will only greenlight a sequel if we believe the story the creators want to tell is worth telling.”
