We’ve rounded up a couple of glamorous items we can absolutely imagine Barbie keeping on hand on her dresser and some handy tips on how to use them. Fun fact: some of the things on this list were even created in collaboration with Barbie herself.
Head inside to check out some beauty items we know are Barbie-approved…
Let’s start with a collection that we already know Barbie approves of; comes from the fan-favorite indie beauty brand glamor. Known for their highly-pigmented eyeshadows and savvy launches (including a best-selling collaboration with Chucky), glamor teamed up with Barbie to create some must-have items.
The centerpiece of the collection is a 24-pan eyeshadow palette ($40) that features an abundance of flirty pinks, dreamy blues, and summery yellows. The brand’s mattes blend like a dream, and its shimmers pack a punch, especially when applied with a damp brush or over a shimmery foundation (our favorite shimmery foundation is nyx and it’s only $6.50).
glamorThe Barbie collection also includes a highlighter oil ($18) and various lip kits that will work for any occasion. If you look now, the collection is depleted, but hopefully it will restock in enough time to get a few pieces sooner. Barbie hits theaters.
If your ideal Barbie look is all about pink tones and luxury, then Pat McGrath is the brand for you. Created by beauty icon Pat McGrath, the line has been worn by celebrities from Kacey Musgraves to Doja Cat to Lil Nas X.
In fact, Kacey used the Mothership IX: Huetopian Dream Eyeshadow Palette ($128) to create the epitome of a Barbie-approved look for the VMA 2021. The 10-pan palette features buttery mattes and some of the brightest shades from Pat’s collection.
Fun fact: the last quad ever Pat McGrathFans refer to Mothership palettes as Special Shades and they come in a variety of formulas. They often feature otherworldly glitters and some extra special colors. In our experience, they are best applied with a wet brush or over glitter glue.
On the subject of motherships, Mothership VII Divine Rose is the go-to if you’re looking for something a little more understated and eye-appealing; Mothership VIII Divine Rose II packs a bit more punch, blending pink hues with luxurious golds and bronzes.
The recently launched Divine Blush: Color Balm Collection by Pat McGrath ($29) is coming to Sephora on June 16 and can provide a healthy flush to your cheeks and lips. The collection (seen above) included Passion Fleur Luxe Eyeshadow Quad ($62), which is all you need for a smoky eye with a dazzling pop of color on the lid.
Liquid lips are back in trend for the summer of 2023, and the Jeffree’s Star Cosmetics The line, created by Jeffree Star, is where you want to look for a formula that dries down and stays put all night.
A Velor liquid lipstick from the brand will set you back $18. Shade Dreamhouse, a metallic pink, looks like it would be in heavy rotation for Barbie. The mannequin is a solid nude option, and there are many other options to choose from.
If you want multiple uses of a beauty product in your collection, you’ll be happy to know that these are safe on the eyes and can be used to create bold graphic eyeliner or as a base for shadows. One of the special shades from Pat McGrath’s Mothership Palettes would take Dreamhouse to the next level if worn in a cut crease!
Speaking of graphic eyeliner, Halsey’s radical beauty has our favorite product for a colorful look with sharp lines. The brand’s Matte Fluid Eye Paint ($16) can be applied with a brush in intricate designs and comes in many perfect colors. The brand’s Fractal Glitter Eye Paint ($16) can be used to give eyes a little extra sparkle!
With both products, about-face’s Shadow Fix Eye Primer will ensure longevity so you can rest easy knowing your hard work won’t fade or chip anytime soon.
If liquid lipsticks aren’t your style and you’re looking for a juicier shine on your lips, check out the brand’s Cherry Pick Lip Color Butter ($15). The product comes in a variety of colors and provides the perfect color and nourishing feel to your lips.
Another brand that has worked with Barbie before is ColourPop Cosmetics. While the collection is out of stock, the affordable line sells many other products that Barbie would want within her reach.
For example, Super Shock Highlighter ($9) comes in a multitude of shades and can be applied with the finger of a brush to give cheeks a little glow. We love Super Shock Blush ($9) and apply it the same way.
Speaking of highlighters, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty It is a must if you love a glowing cheek. Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter packs a punch and can be used on the cheeks or in the inner corner of the eyes to open up the eyes. Shade Wattabrat ($40) is a Barbie pink that can work as a blush topper depending on your skin tone.
If you’re looking for a colorful eyeshadow palette that won’t break the bank, our favorite recommendation will be the formula of Juvia’s place. The Sweet Pinks Six-Plate Palette ($15) features some of the brightest pinks on the market. The Nudes palette will give you more neutral tones.
Another fantastic option is RuPaul’s Drag Race the line of the student Kim Chi beauty chic kimchi. One of our favorites is the brand’s The Happy Palette ($28), which features all the colorful and neutral shades you’d need for a fun look. Most glosses have a luxurious satin formula that complements the eye, but some contain a little more shimmer to take your look to the next level.
The recently launched Donut Collection (seen below) also features a variety of textures, finishes, and color combinations. We could easily imagine any of them working on the Barbie collection.
Fun fact: We just interviewed Kim Chi about her line and got some helpful tips on how to use the products.
