The 2024 Golden Globes, held last night (January 7) in Beverly Hills, were hosted by comedian Jo Koy, who recited a series of jokes in his opening monologue. And while none of his jokes killed his audience, one joke, in particular, went viral for its cringe-worthy reception: his take on Taylor Swift.
After some awkward stabs at celebrities sitting in the audience, Jo Koy took aim at the “Karma” singer. “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we get fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” Koy joked.
Amid some polite laughter, the camera panned to Swift, who seemed completely distracted as she sipped her champagne. “Sorry,” Koy said nervously.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for Swifties to take to social media to respond to the awkward moment.
In a response that garnered more positive reactions than Jo Koy’s joke, a fan posted a screenshot of an unrelated but appropriate 2010 tweet from Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce. “This guy is trying too hard to fit in, he needs to understand that he should sit back and relax because he is not funny at all,” the tweet read.

“I’m proud of her because in the past she would have laughed and pretended it was funny,” one fan wrote. “He’s always the ugly bald guy who thinks he’s the funniest guy ever,” another raged.
“And the flop of the year award goes to him,” noted a third, referring to presenter Jo Koy. “Not even faster, but it was stupid,” wrote another (non)fan.
