Not long after news broke that Taylor Swift sent a cease and desist to X user Jack Sweeney regarding him tracking her flights, fans were quick to react to the situation.
As previously reported, Sweeney manages multiple social media accounts detailing airplane and helicopter flight logs for billionaires, politicians, and public figures. The accounts use publicly available data from the FFA and information from volunteer fans.
To prevent Sweeney from following Taylor Swift’s flights, the pop icon’s lawyer sent her a cease and desist letter. The letter urged him to stop her “stalking and harassing behavior.”
If he didn’t, Swift would have no choice but to pursue all legal remedies. The letter further states that the tracking has caused Swift and her family “direct and irreparable” harm, as well as “emotional and physical distress.”
Speaking in support of Sweeney, one X user noted that the college student claimed the tracking is for research purposes. “It’s measuring the amount of carbon emissions from Taylor’s plane,” the user wrote. “And how much carbon is emitted by flying around the world for a year.”

However, a Taylor Swift fan fixed that Sweeney lied about tracking only the plane and not her. “He does not limit himself to publishing the tracking of his plane in real time, but he actively speculates about its whereabouts. He even posted that Travis Kelce’s friends were on his jet.”
The X user said Sweeney was putting Swift’s safety at risk. Other Swifties agreed since Taylor has multiple stalkers. “Considering she has a stalker who has shown up at her house over 30 times even after being arrested how many times, I can see the concern. The information may be public, but most would not know how to access it. But if he is publishing her whereabouts, that is too much.”

Meanwhile, Jack Sweeney spoke to NBC News about Taylor Swift’s cease and desist letter. He noted that what matters most to him is “transparency and public information” and that he has nothing to apologize for. Additionally, he clarifies that he uses publicly available data from the FAA in tracking her.
“I think it’s important to keep in mind that I mean no harm to any party,” Sweeney told NBC News. “I’m just sharing the facts.”
Sweeney also said that he really thinks Taylor Swift has “some good songs.”
Sweeney’s lawyer, James Slater, also said Swift or any other plane owner has no legal authority to block public information. “There’s no claim, there’s no claim to simply publishing public information,” Slater explained. “And in the letter from Ms. Swift’s lawyers, they did not address any actual claims.”
