Apparently willing to risk her health, a Taylor Swift fan said she was torn between attending the Eras Tour and receiving a life-saving kidney transplant.
During a recent interview with 9 News, Swiftie Tamara Gray revealed that she received a phone call for life-changing surgery while on her way to see Swift’s first show in Sydney.
“I got a call from the hospital saying they had a kidney,” he explained. She revealed that she had been registered for a kidney transplant, but she never expected a donation to be available while she traveled to the Gold Coast airport.
“I won’t lie, there was a split second where I thought about saying no. [to the kidney],” she continued. “But you know, I’m not crazy.”
The Taylor Swift fan also noted that she has IgA nephropathy, also known as Berger’s disease. According to the Mayo Clinic, the disease occurs when a germ-fighting protein called immunoglobulin A (IgA) builds up in the kidneys. It can cause inflammation that, over time, can make it harder for the kidneys to filter waste from the blood.
Gray noted that the moment was something of a miracle for her. “Obviously it had to be that way,” she declared. “Because if she was on that flight, she would have basically missed the call and there’s only 30 minutes to answer, otherwise they move on to the next recipient. I spend 15 hours a week predominantly on dialysis every week.”
Although her friends decided to attend the show while she stayed, Gray added that there is no drama. “Now that I can travel after having a transplant, my friend said, ‘Well, we’ll go see her in Europe or something.’”
