Wander Franco, the shortstop for the Tampa Bay Rays, is being investigated by authorities in the Dominican Republic amid allegations that he’s in a relationship with a minor.
The 22-year-old MLB player has been placed on the team’s restricted list after a mutual agreement between him and the team. He’ll be sitting out at least six games while the MLB investigates the situation.

The allegations are based on social media posts that have since been deleted, but alleged that Wander was involved in an inappropriate relationship.
“During today’s game, we were made aware of the social media posts that are circulating regarding Wander Franco,” a rep for the Rays said in a statement. “We take the situation seriously and are in close contact with Major League Baseball as it conducts its due diligence.”
Authorities in the Dominican Republic confirmed to the Associated Press that “there are investigations regarding that matter.”
