Sylvester Stallone posted an emotional tribute video to Carl Weathers on Instagram.
Weathers passed away at the age of 76 on Thursday. He was known for his portrayal of Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky Films.
In a visibly moved voice, Stallone paid tribute to his old friend and stated: “My life changed for the better forever the day I met Carl Weathers. He was magical. And I was lucky to be part of his life. He rests in power and keeps punching.”

The video has as a backdrop an abstract painting reminiscent of its Rocky Days in the boxing ring.
Stallone begins by saying: “Hello everyone. Today is an incredibly sad day for me. Carl Weathers was an integral part of my life. Which says it all about it. I give him incredible credit. Because when he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness. But I didn’t realize how great it was.”
Stallone later acknowledged Weathers’ pivotal role in the Rocky franchise. “I could never have achieved what we did with Rocky without him. He was absolutely great. The voice of him, the size of him, the power of him, the athletic ability of him, but most importantly, the heart of him… the soul of him” of him.
Stallone and Weathers’ partnership dates back to the early days of both actors’ careers. Stallone, then a budding actor and screenwriter, first teamed with Weathers on the groundbreaking underdog boxer film. Rocky. The two teamed up in four more classics. Rocky Films.
Weathers concluded his on-screen appearances as Creed in rocky iv, a Cold War-themed sequel where he and Creed engage in an exhibition match against Soviet contender Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren. It marked a touching moment when Creed met his death in the ring, closing a chapter in the iconic film series.
