Syed Zafar Islam is a politician and former investment banker. Inspired by Narendra Modi’s politics, Syed became a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party on 5 April 2014. He is one of the prominent Muslim leaders of the party.

Syed Zafar Islam was born in 1971 (age 49 years; as in 2020) in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, India. He completed his schooling in Hazaribagh and then studied BSc and MSc from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. In addition, he completed his Ph.D. Studied. from Delhi University and then went to IIM Ahmedabad to obtain an Executive MBA degree.

Zafar’s father, late Syed Naeem Ahmed, was a small businessman and ran his own clothing shop. After his death the shop was taken over by Syed’s brother Shahbaz Ghani. He also has another brother, Syed Zubair Ahmed who works as a news correspondent in Delhi for the BBC.

Syed Zafar Islam is married. They have a son and a daughter who are studying in Mumbai.
livelihood
Syed Zafar Islam completed his formal education from IIM Ahmedabad and then he started working in Deutsche Bank for about 15 years. He worked as finance director of Deutsche Bank before deciding to join politics. Zafar was influenced by Narendra Modi’s politics and his way of working. Subsequently, he decided to join the BJP and became the national spokesperson of the party in 2014. In 2017, he became a non-official director for Air India.
Facts/General Knowledge
- Apart from the banking sector and politics, Syed was also good in sports and represented Aligarh Muslim University as the captain of the cricket team.
- Syed Zafar has a close friendship with Jyotiraditya Scindia and it is said that Zafar played a big role in bringing Scindia to BJP. Scindia decided to leave Congress in 2020 and joined BJP.
- With Scindia joining the BJP, officials saw Syed’s dedication to the development of the party and he was elected unopposed to the vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh.
- In 2013, Syed Zafar Islam faced housing problems when his flat in Island City Centre, Mumbai suffered sewage problems, leaving his fifth-floor apartment flooded with water. The apartments are said to be priced around Rs. Rs 9 crore in the area. The project was controlled by Bombay Realty (the real-estate extension of Bombay Dyeing), but when confronted they ignored their issue.
