Early life
Swapna Barman was born in October 29, 1996, in Ghoshpara, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, India. He holds Indian nationality while practicing the Hindu religion.

Barman was born in a poor Rajbongshi family. She was born to her parents; Panchanan Barman and Basana Barman. Her father pulled a rickshaw and her mother worked on a tea plantation.

In 2014, Barman finished fifth at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. In 2016, he got a scholarship of 1.5 lakh in recognition of his talent. She finished first in the heptathlon at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Furthermore, he also won gold in the 2017 Patiala Federation Cup.

She won gold in women’s heptathlon (100 m, high jump, 200 m, shot put, javelin throw, long jump and 800 m) at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, increasing India’s medal tally by the Asian Games.
Additionally, she was the first Indian heptathlete to win gold at the Asian Games. After winning the gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games, the West Bengal Government rewarded her with Rs 10 lakh.
He lost funding in 2020 but stated he would continue training at his home in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.
Additionally, he won gold in the heptathlon at the 2021 Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships and competed in the heptathlon at the 2022 National Games. He won an unexpected gold medal when he broke the Games record for high jump of 1, 83m.
