After undergoing a second emergency heart surgery last year, Susan Lucci is in good health. The “All My Children” star provided an update on her health in an interview with People at the 75th Annual Writers Guild Awards this past weekend.
“I’m doing really well,” Lucci said to the site. “I always monitor myself and what’s happening.” After physicians found an 80% arterial blockage brought on by cholesterol and implanted another stent in her heart to address the problem, Lucci had a stent put in her artery in January 2022.
When she realised she had two clogged cardiac arteries after experiencing chest discomfort, she stated in 2020 that she suffered a nearly catastrophic heart attack in 2018. During an appearance on “Good Day New York” last month, she discussed how she originally disregarded her symptoms.
Like most women, Lucci recounted, she believed her symptoms would go away. Oh, it will disappear, it will disappear. When it struck me a third time, I was unable to ignore it. I felt a huge pressure on my chest like someone was pressing on it with an elephant.
Lucci described how she had a 90% blockage in her primary artery and a 75% blockage in the artery next to it when she was diagnosed by cardiologist Richard Shlofmitz. Two artery stents were implanted in her heart during an immediate emergency operation. “I went home the next day,” she affirmed. “I was informed that the widowmaker would have been mine if I hadn’t entered. 99 percent of the time, I wouldn’t have survived the evening.
The soap star, who is now an ambassador for the American Heart Association, started out as a supporter of women’s heart health. Lucci revealed to People this past week that she almost ignored symptoms last January when they reappeared.
