The designer finally came into limelight in 2005 when Surili’s collection for Indian actress Preity Zinta in her film Salaam Namaste was highly appreciated.

I loved designing for films, commercials and TV shows. When you design a collection, it’s a solitary process. Movies are a group effort. You are understanding the director’s vision and you have a character to work with.”

In 2006, Surili moved on from the film industry and showcased her collection “Roses Forever” in her first fashion show at Lakme Fashion Week. His collection for his label Surili G was worn by Bollywood stars like Malaika Arora, Salman Khan and Neelam Kothari Soni, who also walked the ramp for the designer.

In the following years, Surili presented her collections in various shows including Wills India Fashion Week (WIFW) since 2007, HDIL India Couture Week 2009, Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2010, Pune Fashion Week 2010 and 2012 and Chivas Studio 2010. Her merchandise is in luxury fashion houses such as “Fiza” in Mumbai, “Kimaya” in Mumbai and Delhi, and “Aza” in Mumbai, Delhi and Ludhiana. Controversy
accused of copying a dress
In 2006, Surly was accused of designing a dress for her Surly G label that was too similar to a dress created by American designer Megan Odabash. The same dress was worn by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta for Surili at Lakme Fashion Week in 2006. Responding to allegations of fraud in the dress design, Ms Goyal said in an interview that she had designed the dress in October – around the same time as Odabash, which meant it was not possible to copy the dress. He also denied knowing any American designer by that name.
