Superman’s Lois Lane Gets a Monstrous Makeover in New Cover Art

Warning: Potential SPOILERS for Superman #3The latest threat to Superman is coming from inside his own home. New cover art for Superman #3 shows a Parasite-infected Lois Lane kissing her husband—and possibly killing him.

This cover comes with the April solicitation information for Superman #3. The cover by series artist Jamal Campbell depicts an almost-classic Superman and Lois Lane midair kiss, but with a deadly twist. Superman is wrapped in Lois’ many pairs of arms, and it appears as though her skin has turned purple—not unlike Superman’s classic villain, Parasite. Most concerning of all is the glowing and cracked skin around their mouths, suggesting that this Parasite-Lois is literally sucking the life force from Superman through their kiss. Superman’s Love Lois Lane Has Never Been So Terrifying

Lois Lane, of course, is as intrinsic to Superman’s world as the likes of Krypton or Lex Luthor—even more, since she predates both the planet and the CEO. Lois is Clark Kent’s wife and decades-old love interest, and she’s also a hero in her own right: a prize-winning journalist, she fights for truth and justice in her own essential way. On the flip side, Parasite is Superman’s decades-old enemy. Though there have been a number of human Parasite characters over the years, one of the more iconic appearances is as a purple, almost lizard-like humanoid monster. Parasite has the ability to sucks the powers and energy from whatever they touch, including humans and, of course, Superman himself.

If Parasite now has the ability to “infect” others with his energy-sucking powers, Superman is in even more danger than ever—and so is Lois Lane. Though Lois Lane can (and has, many times) lead a story of her own, she has almost always supported Superman and Clark Kent alike. Seeing her turned into a strange and terrifying monster on this cover—and in suck an iconic kiss pose—is a shocking change of pace for her character.

Just how will Lois Lane and Superman survive and encounter with Parasite if Lois herself is infected by the supervillain? While this cover teases the dangerous situation—with a monstrous new look for Lois Lane to boot—readers will have to wait for the issue to find out.
