Sunny Singh aka Purane aka Chhote Thakur was born in 2000 (age 23 years; as of 2023) in Kurara village, Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He was a troublesome child and often got into fights with other children. He left school after completing 8th grade.

He has two brothers named Mangal Singh and Pintu Singh and one sister who is married. Mangal had an alcohol addiction and had sold his agricultural land before he passed away in 2020. His brother Pintu runs a restaurant in Manki Stand area of Hamirpur. His grandfather’s name is Kedar Singh.

As he grew up, Sunny became a gambler and used to steal money from his brother’s restaurant for gambling, due to which his brother started distancing himself from him. Later he left his village and went to Bengaluru to work as a labourer. He earned Rs 20,000 and came back to Hamirpur; However, he lost all his money gambling. When the first case was registered against him in 2016, he was involved in looting gold and silver jewelery from a couple riding a bike near Mishripur village in Kurara, Hamirpur. He later became a member of the Rohit Yadav gang and was involved in several robberies. He got involved in a shootout with the police and was arrested and sent to jail.

Association with Sundar Bhati Gang
He came in contact with dreaded gangster Sundar Bhati in Hamirpur jail in 2021 and became a member of the Bhati gang; However, there was an alleged fight between them on 30 May 2022 after which the jails of both were changed to avoid any tension in future. Once he came out of jail, he had a fight with Babu Yadav of Patara village of Kurara, Hamirpur and he opened fire on Yadav; However, the bullet did not hit Yadav. Sunny has more than 15 cases registered against him related to illegal weapons possession, extortion, robbery and attempt to murder and is listed as history-sheeter number 13 at Kurara police station in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed Murder
Sunny, along with his two associates, Lavlesh Tiwari of Banda and Arun Maurya of Kasganj, shot dead notorious gangster-turned-politician brothers Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed in front of media persons and police at MLN Medical on April 15, 2023, at 10:30 pm. Murdered. The two brothers were addressing media persons while going for medical checkup at the college in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
Ashraf Ahmed was going for medical checkup with his brother Atiq Ahmed, seconds before Lovelesh, Sunny and Arun shot him.
They fired more than 30 rounds using Turkish-made Zigana and Girsan pistols, which are banned in India and cost Rs 6-8 lakh each, and killed the brothers on the spot. The autopsy revealed that Atiq was hit by 8 bullets, Ashraf was hit by 6 bullets, and sustained injuries to vital parts of their bodies, causing instant death. The trio posed as journalists to gain access to the gangster brothers, fired at them at close range and surrendered after ensuring that the brothers were dead. When the policemen caught them they raised slogans of Jai Shri Ram and surrender.
Sunny Singh was caught by the police officers after the murder of Atiq and Ashraf Ahmed.
Police said that during preliminary interrogation, the trio said that they killed the mafia brothers to become popular as they wanted to become mafia like the Ahmed brothers. Later investigation revealed that he was paid more than Rs 3 crore to execute the deadly plan. A case was registered against Sunny and two other killers under IPC sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 307 (attempt to murder). Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held an emergency meeting with top police officials at his residence and imposed Section 144 in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He also suspended 17 policemen present at the spot. Later he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

- His brother Pintu told that Sunny was unemployed and often had fights with the people of the area.
- His mother Krishna Devi worked as a cook at weddings and local events to support the family after his father’s death in 2003.
