Sumit Arora is an Indian screenwriter and director who has written dialogues for films such as Stree (2018), The Family Man (2019), and Jawan (2023). He has worked as a screenwriter for the popular TV series 24 (2013), Dahad (2023), and Dil Mil Gaye (2007).

Sumit Arora was born in 1991 (age 32 years; as of 2023) in Meerut. He has been very fond of cricket since childhood. He wanted to become a cricketer. Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar were his favorite cricketers. While growing up, he realized that his potential lay more towards becoming a writer rather than a cricketer. In an interview he revealed,
I have been a crazy fan of cricket since childhood. I wanted to be a cricketer even before I thought of becoming a writer. Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and all my heroes. When I was growing up, that was the only World Cup that India won before 2011. I wanted to be in the cricket team. Then I realized that I am not a good cricketer at all, I am a good writer.”
Sumit Arora grew up learning Hindi literature from his mother. He completed his primary education from a Hindi medium school and earned a bachelor’s degree in Hindi literature. Recalling his early years in an interview, he said,
I studied in Hindi medium school. I didn’t know how to speak English. My mother instilled in me the habit of reading from an early age, I used to read stories from (magazines) like Nandan, and then I graduated to literary magazines like Hans, Gyanodaya and others. By the age of 17 and 18, my columns started getting published in Hindi newspapers. Satire was my specialty.”

In 2006, at the age of 15, Sumit Arora moved to Mumbai to work in Hindi films as a writer. He started writing for television series and shows like Chhuna Hai Aasmaan (2007), Dil Mil Gaye (2007), 24 (2013), and Little Things (Season 3–2019, Season 4–2021). After getting success, he started getting work in films as a writer. Sumit Arora made his directorial debut with the 2015 short film White Shirt. The 2018 horror-comedy film Stree was his first film as a dialogue writer. He wrote dialogues and screenplays for many popular films and web series like The Family Man (2019), Jaawaan (2023), Guns & Roses (2023), Ginny Weds Sunny (2020) and 83 (2021). His upcoming projects include Chandu Champion, which will release on June 14, 2024.

Two things are, I communicate on some projects and sometimes prepare the entire script. The style of both is different. When I get a script, the first thing I try to do in my mind is who are these people? I talk to directors and screenwriters. And then I try to write my own about the characters and their world. So that I can understand the characters well. So when I write scenes for my characters, I try to know everything about them.

I enjoy reading a lot of Hindi poems. So I write some poems for myself that I would like to make into a book at some point in my life.
