Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu is an Indian lawyer and politician who won the seat for the Congress party from Nadaun constituency in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election. He was elected as the 15th Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh in 2022, after Congress won seats in 40 out of 68 states.

Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was born on Friday, 27 March 1964 (age 59 years; as in 2023) in Sera village, Nadaun, Himachal Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Aries. He did his schooling from Government High School, Kasumpti, Shimla. He earned a bachelor’s degree in law from Govt. Degree College, Sanjauli and Master’s degree in Political Science from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. When he was in college, he used to run a milk counter in Chhota Shimla. According to his mother, he was inclined towards studies and worked hard, even when he had to work at various places for money.

Sukhwinder started his political career from college. He became an activist when he was in Himachal Pradesh University. Later, he joined the National Students Union of India, the student wing of the Congress. He was the state president of NSUI from 1989 to 1995. He became the state president of the Indian National Youth Congress in 1998 and held the post till 2008. He was a councilor of Shimla Municipal Corporation from 1992-1997. In 1997, he was re-elected as a councilor of Shimla Municipal Corporation and held the position till 2002. In 2003, 2007 and 2017, he was elected to the state assembly. From 2007 to 2012, he was the Chief Whip of the Congress Legislative Party. In 2017, he was named as a member of the Public Undertakings, Privileges and Trade Consultative Committees for the party. From 2013 to 2019, he served as the President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee. In 2019, he was removed from the post of party president. In 2022, he stood from Nadaun constituency in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections and won the seat. On 8 December 2022, he was selected as the CM candidate of the Congress Party. He became the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh after taking oath in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi on 11 December 2022.

- In 2017, Amit Shah had commented on the politics of the Congress party and Himachal Pradesh and, referring to Sukhvinder, had said that the party would not give a chance to a candidate from a non-political background and would select a candidate from the already ruling background.
- In an interview he talked about his struggles due to not being from a political background and said,
Yes, I had to struggle at every step to survive in politics. The elite and those with political support easily find their way into electoral politics as well. But I got the fruits of hard work and loyalty towards the organization. Congress President Rahul Gandhi wants to bring forward the common workers and that is why he has chosen me for the top post. Even after losing the assembly elections, I was promoted as State Congress President in 2013. The fact that I have emerged from struggle and not from ‘power driven politics’ is my strength.”
- He had constant fights with Virbhadra because the party gave him many opportunities and the party did not accept Sukhwinder. While talking about Virbhadra in an interview he said,
Yes. But before this, even during the tenure of Virbhadra ji, Congress had not been able to win elections continuously. Yet, under the leadership of the BJP and in their absence, we won the recent by-elections, including one of the Lok Sabha [Mandi] And three assembly constituencies. He [Virbhadra Singh] He was undoubtedly a great leader and has left behind a legacy. But our organizational strength and presence is good, has been good. This is one reason why AAP has not been able to make a dent. People in the state are inclined towards Congress for more reasons than one.
- In an interview, he said that in 2022 he is likely to get maximum votes from the Brahmin caste. Talking about this in the interview he said,
Congress party is going to form the government in a place which is a Hindu majority state, people have rejected the ideology of BJP. BJP lost the election because of Priyanka Gandhi’s special strategy, Gandhi family does not have a house anywhere in the country, but only in one place i.e. Himachal Pradesh, where Priyanka Gandhi has a house.
- Before becoming the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, he frequently drove his Maruti Suzuki Alto City car for years and earned the name ‘Alto Man’ in public and political circles in Shimla. On March 14, 2023, he had also arrived in his Alto car to attend the budget session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly.

- On 15 September 2023, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu transferred his lifetime savings of Rs.
