Sudhir Sangwan is an Indian lawyer and contractor who is best known as the personal secretary of TikTok star and BJP leader Sonali Phogat. In August 2022, he came under the radar of Goa Police for his alleged involvement in the Sonali Phogat murder case.

Allegation of relationship with Sonali Phogat
Sudhir Sangwan first met Sonali Phogat during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting was apparently arranged by a man from Gagdawas village in Bhiwani district, who has links with several film actors. He worked behind the scenes for about five months and came to the public during the 2019 Legislative Assembly elections; Sonali had contested the elections from Adampur assembly seat on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. Sudhir had helped him during the election campaign. He first went to Sonali’s house as a guest and gradually made her house his permanent home. Talking about this during a conversation with the media, a relative of Sonali said,
One day I got a call from Sonali. He told that a guest from Australia has come to the house. He is a lawyer and I should go and meet him. When I reached Sonali’s house, Sudhir was roaming in Capri. He left after a day. After a week, Sudhir came again and stayed at Sonali’s house for 7 days. Gradually he made Sonali’s house a permanent home. Within a month, Sudhir understood who was close to Sonali in the family.
Gradually he took possession of everything from Sonali’s farmhouse keys to her ATM cards, financial assets and even her phone. He used to decide who Sonali would meet and who was allowed to go to Sonali’s house. Apparently, he took a house on rent in Gurgaon Greens Society, located in Sector 102, Gurugram, where he mentioned Sonali Phogat as his wife in the documents.

After completing LLB, Sudhir started practicing as a lawyer in Gohana. After some time he opened a poultry farm, which did not do well. He even started working as a middleman to help farmers get subsidy on poly houses. He also worked as a contractor for some time and in 2019, he started working as the personal secretary to TikTok star and BJP leader Sonali Phogat.

defrauding the landlord
During 2015-2016, Sudhir lived with his parents, wife and children in a rented house in Sector-2, Rohtak, Haryana. The landlord of his house once accused him of misbehaving with him and also of occupying his (landlord’s) house. After that, he asked Sudhir’s family to vacate their house within seven months.
scam allegation
When Sudhir was working as a middleman in Poly House to provide subsidy to the farmers, he was accused of scam. Reportedly, he kept all the subsidy money with himself and did not give it to the farmers. He also had to go to jail for this act.
rape allegation
After the death of Sonali Phogat, her brother Rinku Dhaka lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Sangwan had raped his sister Sonali three years ago by mixing some unpleasant substance in her food. He recorded the incident on his phone and apparently forced Sonali to have physical relations with him several times. He even blackmailed her into ending her political and film career if she did not agree with him.

Sonali Phogat died under mysterious circumstances in Goa on 22 August 2022. Initially it was believed that he died of a heart attack. However, her post-mortem report revealed that there were multiple injuries on her body following which her family members claimed that she was raped by two men. As soon as the police started investigating the case, they got three CCTV footages.
First CCTV footage: The first video was from Curlies restaurant in Goa in which Sudhir was seen handling Sonali as she was not able to walk properly. In the same footage, Sudhir and his aide Sukhwinder Singh were seen taking Sonali to the washroom and they remained there for about two hours.

Second CCTV footage: The 36-second video is from a disco. In the video, Sonali is seen dancing with both Sudhir and Sukhwinder. However, she does not seem comfortable dancing with Sukhwinder and tries to get rid of him several times. Sudhir was also dancing next to him.

Third CCTV footage: In the third video, when Sonali was dancing with him, Sudhir is seen putting a bottle in her mouth and forcing her to drink intoxicants.

After watching the video, Goa Police arrested Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh for further questioning.

According to Goa Police officials, during police interrogation, Sudhir and Sukhwinder confessed that they had forcibly mixed methamphetamine chemical in water to Sonali Phogat. When Sonali’s health deteriorated due to medicine overdose, they took her to the washroom. During the press conference, Inspector General of Police Omveer Singh Bishnoi gave information about the incident.
After reaching Goa, Sudhir along with Sukhwinder took Sonali Phogat to Curly’s restaurant in North Goa on the pretext of partying and he (Sangwan) mixed some unpleasant substance in the drinking water and forced Sonali to drink it. After drinking the water he felt uneasy and sick in the restaurant. Later Sangwan and Sukhwinder took him to the hotel where they were staying and then to St. Antony’s Hospital, Anjuna where he was declared brought dead.

- According to some sources, Sudhir likes to be close to political figures.
- Apparently, it was Sudhir who introduced Sukhwinder Singh to Sonali Phogat saying that Singh would help Sonali get work in Goa.
- During the elections, Sudhir used to arrange various types of luxury rides for Sonali. The vehicles he arranged for Sonali Phogat include Mercedes, Ford Endeavor and Skoda cars.

- Reportedly, Sudhir continued using Sonali’s mobile phone even 12 hours after her death.
- According to Sonali’s relatives and friends, she never took any decision without Sudhir’s consent. He controlled Sonali’s daily routine in such a way that even her family members could not reach her without Sudhir’s wish.
