murder of his 4 year old son
In January 2024, Suchana Seth was accused of murdering her 4-year-old son in a service apartment in Goa. Reportedly, he strangled his son to death with a pillow or towel. According to some sources, Suchana Seth went to Goa with her son on January 6, 2024, where she rented a service apartment in the Candolim area of North Goa. After staying there for two days, he asked the apartment staff to arrange a taxi to Bengaluru as he had some work there. However the staff members suggested him to take a flight to Bengaluru as the taxi cost Rs. 30,000 (much more than a flight ticket), Suchana said she wanted to travel only by taxi. The hotel staff arranged for a taxi on January 8 after which she left for Bengaluru. When the hotel staff went to clean the room from where Seth had checked out, they found blood stains on the towel and immediately informed the Calangute police. She also told the police that when she left the hotel, her son was not with her and her suitcase was very heavy. When the police called her to confirm the blood stains and her son’s whereabouts, she replied that the stains were due to her menstruation and said that her son was with his friend in Margao. She also gave her friend’s address, which turned out to be fake. Later the police called the taxi driver and asked him to take Suchana Seth to the nearest police station. Suchana was arrested by the Calangute police at Chitradurga police station with her son’s body in her travel bag and taken back to Goa. Later, a court in Mapusa city sent him on remand for six days.
During investigation, it was revealed that Seth had tried to kill himself by cutting his wrist with scissors. Two bottles of cough syrup were found in the apartment where she had murdered her son. Suchana was also charged under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Goa Juvenile Act. Although the exact reason for the crime was not known, the police suspected that Suchana’s strained relationship with her husband was a possible reason behind the crime. Police also said that Seth was unhappy with the Bengaluru Family Court’s order that her son’s father could meet her every Sunday.
