Career and professional life
Dundee United
Before joining Dundee United as a professional in July 2009, Stuart Armstrong played for Dyce Boys Club and the Inverness Caledonian Thistle youth team. He made his first team debut for Dundee United in November 2010, coming on as a substitute in a 1–0 win over Hamilton Academical.
Later, in December 2011 against St Mirren, in a 2-2 draw, he scored his first goal for United. He signed a three-year contract with Dundee United in September 2012 after making six appearances this year. In October 2012, he signed a new contract with United. On 24 November he scored his first goal of the season in a 2–1 victory over Ross County.
Stuart Armstrong and Dundee United began discussing a new deal on 19 November; On December 12 he signed a one-year deal. During the January 2014 transfer window, Celtic showed interest in some of Dundee United’s other young players.

He made his first league appearance of the year on 17 August 2019, in a 1–2 loss against Liverpool, replacing Ché Adams.
He earned his first league start of the year on 2 November 2019, in a 2–1 loss to Manchester City. At the King Power Stadium on 11 January 2020, Southampton defeated Leicester City 1-2 with the help of Stuart’s first goal of the year. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the Premier League to suspend play on 13 March 2020. His new three-and-a-half-year contract with Southampton was confirmed on 1 January 2021 and will last until the summer of 2024.
International career
He played at under-19 and under-21 levels for Scotland. In August 2015 and March 2017, the national team called him up again. On 26 March 2017 he made his senior international debut in a 1-0 win against Slovenia. He suffered an injury in September 2017 and was forced to miss two 2018 World Cup qualifying matches.
After testing positive for COVID-19 in October 2020, he withdrew from the Scotland squad for a Euro 2020 qualifying play-off semi-final against Israel. He was chosen for the Scotland squad for the delayed UEFA Euro 2020 competition in May 2021.
