Stephan Cannon Was Found Guilty Of Fatally Shooting Former St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn

A Missouri jury convicted Stephan Cannon guilty on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, of fatally shooting retired St. Louis police captain David Dorn during a case of looting and rioting in June 2020. Cannon was found guilty of three counts of armed criminal action, first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary of $750 or more by the jury. Marvin Teer Jr., the lead prosecutor, said,

“A fine guy was killed, and another man will most certainly spend many years in jail as a result.”

Teer, on the other hand, was relieved that David Dorn’s family could finally find closure in their life. Ann Dorn, widow of retired police captain David Dorn, said that she spent almost three days in court to ensure that justice was served for her late husband. She said that Teer performed an excellent job and that the family could not have selected a better prosecutor for the case.

David Dorn was killed after responding to a burglar alarm.

David was slain on June 2, 2020, while responding to a burglar alarm at a friend’s shop, Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry. Robbers stormed into the store at 2 a.m., and David Dorn, 77, resisted them but was mortally injured. Furthermore, the prosecution has charged six persons in connection with the incident, including Cannon, the guy suspected of killing Dorn.

According to accounts, lawyers aired the Facebook live footage of the incident’s aftermath before it was removed from the network. Cannon’s public attorney, Brian Horneyer, maintained in his opening statements that there was no physical evidence linking his client to Dorn’s death. He has also claimed that the state’s primary witness, who is facing many charges, told police that he would say “anything” to win a plea bargain and escape being convicted guilty of murder.

However, the prosecution claims that Cannon was the only person there when bullets were fired in the area. Investigators allegedly discovered a pistol, TVs, and dreadlock shards in Cannon’s apartment following the crime. They were, however, unable to locate the weapon used in the assault by Cannon.

Cannon, a Glasgow Village resident, was arrested and charged with Dorn’s murder a few days later. A second man, Mark Jackson, was charged with three charges of armed criminal action, including second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary. The defense counsel, Brian Horneyer, said that he will appeal on behalf of his client, Stephan Cannon. If his plea for a retrial is denied at the time of sentence, he plans to appeal. He is scheduled to be sentenced in the case on September 13.
