Michael Culver, best known for his role as Captain Needa in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, He has died at the age of 85.
Culver died on February 27. Although the cause of death has not yet been announced, the late actor had experienced some health problems in recent years.
Michael Culver’s agent released a statement regarding his recent death. “We are very sad to confirm the passing of our friend and client Michael Culver. It has been an honor to have represented Michael over the last decade and taken him to some of the best Star Wars Events in the UK and Europe. We will miss you.”
The late actor’s agent also shared a great recent moment for him. “The highlight was taking Michael to Celebration in Chicago in 2019. He was speechless when he saw the line of almost 200 people waiting to see him.”
Culver’s agent then said they had been working with him just three weeks before his death. “A career spanning more than 50 years with notable roles in Sherlock Holmes, A Passage to India, Secret Army, and of course one of the most memorable death scenes of the Star Wars franchise.”
Michael Culver played Captain Needa, who was killed by Darth Vader via force strangulation. His agent also claimed that the late actor’s key focus in recent years had been his political activism. With Star Wars, Culver starred Secret Army, The House of Eliott, and The return of Sherlock Holmes.
“Michael largely gave up acting in the early 2000s to focus his efforts on his political activism,” his agent shared.

Following the news of Michael Culver’s passing, fans took to social media to pay tribute to the late actor.
The Star Wars Underworld posted on X, formerly Twitter: “We are saddened to report that actor Michael Culver has passed away at the age of 85. Culver was best known among Star Wars fans for playing Captain Lorth Needa in The Empire Strikes Back. She also had a variety of roles in many stage, film and radio productions.”

He Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes The podcast also paid tribute to Michael Culver. “Michael had been sick for some time,” the post read. “But this did not stop this strong and principled man from continuing to live, work and speak for the causes for which he had fought so hard throughout his life. Michael was not only an extraordinary actor, but also an extraordinary man.”
He is survived by his children Justin, Roderic and Susan, as well as his grandchildren Cameron, Isabella, Grace and Sabina. “It has been an honor to have represented Michael for the last decade,” his agent said. “And having taken it to some of the best Star Wars events in the UK and Europe.”
